01 Manifesto

We don't manufacture furniture.
We age wood into heirlooms.

Saraf Family, Est. 1993 · Sardarshahar
02 Annual Rings

Each year,
one ring thicker.

A tree tells its age through its rings — each one a record of the seasons it endured. Our manufactory tells its story the same way. What follows are the rings of Saraf Exports: the moments that thickened the grain.

1993 THE FOUNDING
  1. 1993

    The Founding

The Saraf family opens a 400 sqm workshop in Sardarshahar, Rajasthan. Twelve artisans, two wood species, one quiet ambition.

  2. 1999

    First European Shipment

A single container of solid sheesham furniture sails to Rotterdam. It becomes the foundation of our European portfolio — today our largest region.

  3. 2007

    The 50,000 sqm Campus

We relocate to a purpose-built campus — kilns, seasoning yards, finishing halls, and an on-site design studio, all under one roof.

  4. 2010

    Zero-Deforestation Pledge

Every trunk we receive from this year forward carries FSC-certified chain of custody. No exceptions. No shortcuts.

  5. 2015

    The Debut Collection.

After years of OEM work, we release our first design collection under the Saraf name — 31 pieces, a statement of our own voice.

  6. 2018

    Solar Campus

A 1.2 MW rooftop installation now offsets 60% of the manufactory's energy. Kilns, lathes, and finishing lines run on Rajasthan sun.

  7. 2024

    Forty Countries

From a twelve-man shed in Sardarshahar to a manufactory that dispatches weekly to four continents. Three decades of patience, thickening the grain.

The Manufactory

Where
grain meets
intention.

Fifty thousand square meters. Eight hundred pairs of hands. Kilns that run on solar. A seasoning yard where raw timber rests for months before it is ever touched by a chisel. Nothing here is hurried. That is the point.

04 The Herbarium

Four specimens from our
working archive.

Each species that passes through our manufactory is catalogued like a botanical specimen — taxonomy, provenance, measured properties. Below is the working archive of the four woods that form the backbone of every piece we ship.

07 The Joinery

Four promises,
rendered as joints.

In our trade, a promise is only as strong as the joint that carries it. Each of the four standards below is drawn in the language of the workshop — the same joinery our artisans have cut by hand for thirty-two years.

  1. i. Dovetail
    Half-blind · through-pin

    Solid wood.
    No substitutes.

Every piece we ship is made of solid timber — never veneer, never MDF, never a shortcut dressed as a standard. Like a dovetail, our construction is visible proof of the material: what you see on the surface is what runs all the way through.

  2. ii. Mortise & Tenon
    Through-tenon · FSC verified

    Certified chain
    of custody.

Our timber is traced from FSC-certified forests to the finished piece — every board, every batch, documented. A mortise only accepts the tenon it was cut for; we only accept timber whose provenance fits the standard.

  3. iii. Finger Joint
    Interlocked · glue-free geometry

    Eight hundred hands,
    one standard.

Our 800+ artisans work to a single bench standard — trained, measured, and paid fairly, with health cover and a skills programme that trains the next generation. Like a finger joint, many parts must align with the same tolerance for the whole to hold.

  4. iv. Lap Joint
    Half-lap · pegged & proven

    Partnerships
    built to last.

Many of our export relationships are older than most furniture companies. A lap joint binds two members into a single structural line — no hierarchy, no hidden fasteners. That is how we work with our buyers: overlapping, measured, and permanent.

08 · Partnership

Let's build
something that lasts.
